Internet Marketing - Scams, Plagues, and the Truth
Thanks to the throngs of internet abusers out there, there has become a general misconception about internet marketing and making money via internet sales and promotion. With the continuous onslaught of spam, junk mail, and those annoying dancing people who want to refinance your home, it’s a wonder that anybody takes the idea of marketing online that seriously. Fortunately for us, online marketing is an extraordinary way to get your brand in front of lots of people. The beauty of the internet is that you can target very specific demographics limiting you’re exposure to the people who want or need to see your ad.
Google Adwords and Adsense are two of the most basic ways to advertise online.
With Google Adwords, you’re site pops up in the sponsored results for keywords you choose. When people type a search query into Google, they rank and display regular search results and then rank and display sponsored results according to the budget set by the client. The cost is calcualted using Pay Per Click or PPC. The client is charged only when someone clicks on the link.
Google Adsense works two-fold. When a site signs up with Google Adsense, Google displays content relevant Ads on their site. The client is then paid for every ad that is clicked on the site. Clients can also pay Google to place their ads on other sites that display Google Adsense advertisements.
There are also many other ways advertise that are just as effective.
Banner Ads - Many online companies make a lot of money selling banner ads on their sites. Banner ads are simply image Ads that are displayed on a website around the general content on the site. Large companies like Myspace charge a premium for banner ad space because they have so many visitors to their site everyday. Now, other blog type sites are catching on that hits to their site can mean serious advertising dollars for them.
Pay-Per-Click Links - Websites that display lots of info or content about particular subjects can benefit from this simple revenue source. They place links throughout their site to paid advertiser. The links can be very simple or complex banner ads. Sometimes the consumer may not even know they’re leaving the original website when they click the links.
Affiliate Sales - This rather complex system allows websites to to sell other companies products without ever seeing or touching them. The salesperson creates a site and hosts a click through system that lets people see and buy products that are actually on the parent company site. The consumer may never even know where they actually bought the product. The affiliate site is then given a commission on whatever sells they make.
Email Blasts - Many companies utilize large email campaigns to market new events or products to consumers. Usually, if done correctly, the potential customer has signed up on an email list because they want to receive the information. Unfortunately, spammers can get hold of large databases of email addresses and send inordinate amounts of spam email.
Database Marketing - Database Marketing utilizes computer technology to gather store, and process large amounts of information about consumers. The company can then use tis info to target specific information about products to a person who fits the demographic. Large companies excel at this and can potentially have millions of people in their databases while still targeting specific qualities of the individual.
