Web Design has come a long way in the past couple of years. New coding abilities and web standards are allowing web designers more versatility than ever before. With Software like Cold Fusion and Open Source programming like PHP, we can now build websites with easy to use content management systems for greater flexibility to the client. Gone are the days where new html was written for each addition to the site. Now Clients can log into Dashboards and Interfaces that allow them to change or add text, pictures, form information, etc. Using the same programming that runs Web Communities like Myspace and Facebook, these websites are the ultimate in marketing ability. Constantly refreshing information on your site brings repeat visitors and adds much needed fuel for your Search Engine rankings. Driven by database information, PHP programming allows your site to pull info from a database on the server instead of loading html static content. Blog services like Wordpress add greater versatility in content management by utilizing a database system that can categorize information. This makes searching and browsing the information on your site as easy as using Google. With PHP, we can create internal search engines that actually work exactly like regular search engines such as Google and Yahoo. For more information, visit these Wiki pages.

I recently switched the to the Firefox browser because somehow my Safari browser has been somewhat corrupted in the registry and closes randomly while I am working. The beautiful thing was that the switch was effortless. Firefox imported all of my saved data from Safari including my bookmarks. I must say, I am becoming a big fan of the Firefox browser for several reasons. I like the ability to have multiple tabs in one browser. I also like the ability to use the Google Toolbar. This had not been available to me with Safari and is a very useful tool for Search Engine work. With Google Toolbar, you can automatically see a website’s PageRank. It also has quick links to cached versions of the site as well as a quick way to see back links to the site. While not as comprehensive as Google analytics or my server data, it allows me to see basic information while I surf. For anyone who does this type of work, The Google Toolbar is an invaluable tool. It’s a fact that Google runs the SEO world and so I will always utilize whatever free tools they give to help us in our game.

I found two useful places on the web for info on Search Engine Optimization and this whole blog experiment. Advertising on well optimized blogs with high PageRanks can result in some substantial income for the internet authors. The link below for the company We Build Pages, takes you to a well run and substantial Search Engine company. They have a lot of useful information on the industry as well as links to many other resources on the subject of SEO.
I am still learning details about how Google views database driven blogs and their content. I have found that entries to this blog appear in the searches must faster than static info on websites we build. It seems that Google pays special attention to info on the web that is updated on a regular basis.

Getting a high rank in search engines requires a two prong attack and they are….(drum roll)……….Content and Links. Thats it! Most SEO companies will sell the average consumer on meta tags and search engine registration. Unfortunately, those just don’t cut it any more. Google has grown up and grown smart. They play it very simple now. Bottom line with SEO is that Google wants their search spiders to see what we see. They want to find websites the way we do. They want to see natural content and multiple links from other high ranked sources on the web. It’s that simple. All of this said, great SEO companies have the following going for them. Great connections, great copy writers, and a huge amount of patience and grit. It’s a fact that finding links for websites is one of the hardest jobs in the industry. But, its also the most rewarding because links are THE NUMBER ONE way to improve a website’s pagerank. So before you waste your time with large SEO companies promising fast results, Come talk to us at Herrington Marketing and learn how hard work and determination will always get you the best results.

Strategic Business Units are smaller businesses or divisions of business under a larger company or organization. Many large companies like Sony, have diversified into many levels and SBUs. They are in the business or many different electronics, but also are major players in the music industry with labels and publishing. On a smaller scale, businesses can use SBUs to help manage their marketing strategies and analyze budgets and management more efficiently. Star, Cash Cow, Problem Child, and Dog are all marketing terms for ranking SBUs within a company. They help rank growth potential and market share. A star is a division that hold great growth potential and is usually a market leader. A cash cow is a huge profit source, usually in a low growth market, and has a dominant share of the market. A problem child has a rapid growth rate but poor profit margins in a high growth market. Finally, a dog shares a low market share and a low growth rate. All of these fit within a portfolio matrix which analyzes each SBU and determines market share and forecasted or present growth.

She nows has several of her paintings on display in the Law Offices of Margaret Chesney and in Mode du Jour on South Main. You can check out some of her artwork on her website or Tuesday thru Saturday at Mode du Jour . SueLayman Designs
